Description:
The long awaited Biggin Hill swimming pool project took a step closer to completion recently when Bromley Council leader, Councillor Stephen Carr, along with Councillor Julian Bennington took place in its ‘topping out’ ceremony.
The swimming pool project, which has been a local campaign lasting many years with numerous locations touted, was finally constructed on the site of the old Biggin Hill library in Church Road. The project has cost £5.1 million and is intended to be a “hub” for the local community. As well as a 25 metre swimming pool the modern glass building will rehouse the library, which has been at a temporary location in Main Road, and provide a cafe, a games room, as well as a function suite which will be available for hire.
A ‘topping out’ ceremony is a ritual in which the last beam is placed on top of a building, in this case Councillor Stephen Carr helped to roll out the sedum roof, a green roof covering to coincide with the buildings other eco-friendly features, including a recycling heat to provide power. Councillor Carr identified the project as a sign that Bromley Council was “...delivering on our commitment to build a better Bromley...”
The building is due to be opened in late spring.
