Penge Town Sign Ideas

24 August 2010

Description:

If you check out the Bromley Info section of Guide2Bromley you will find information on every single town in the borough, from Anerley in the north to Cudham and Downe in the south.  You will also notice that for the majority of the towns there is a picture of the town signs.  These range from simple but poignant designs, such as the iron depiction of Spitfires and countryside on the Biggin Hill sign through to the much more elaborate sign at Chislehurst depicting Queen Elizabeth I knighting Lord Walsingham in 1597.

A significant emission from our comprehensive sign collection is that of the town of Penge, but a local councillor is looking to change all that.

Councillor John Getgood has organised an exhibition at Penge Library, showcasing 15 ideas of what could be included in the design of the new sign.  Local people are being asked to vote for their favourites and the top nine will be incorporated into the signs design.  The competition will run until the first week in September when the winning images will be announced.

The sign, which will be displayed in the High Street, is expected to cost around £4,000, with local people and businesses expected to contribute 50% against the half requested from Bromley Council.
