The new library and swimming pool facility at Biggin Hill has been officially opened by the Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward.

The long awaited development just off of the Main Road in Biggin Hill has a 25 metre swimming pool, a library, a cafe and parking facilities on the site of the old Biggin Hill Memorial Library.  Though the location of the pool has come under scrutiny after strong arguments were made for it being located at Charles Darwin School, alongside the other Bromley Mytime facility, Darwin Leisure Centre, it has been largely welcomed by the local community.  Plans for a pool in Biggin Hill had been discussed for over 20 years before work started on the facility.

The Royal visitor was given a full tour of the facility, which also includes a cafe with Wi-Fi and free internet access, and met with library users as well as swimmers.

Biggin Hill Memorial Library and Pool caters for business meetings as well as children’s parties.  There is a swimming academy and other water based fitness classes.  The swimming facilities are on a pay as you go basis but membership is also available offering better rates for regular users.  The pool is open from 7:30am Monday to Friday and from 8am at weekends.
