One of the UKs largest and most famous Air Fairs at Biggin Hill will undergo a change of management in time for the event in 2011.

The Maitland family has been involved with the yearly spectacle since its inception in 1963, when Squadron Leader Jock Maitland launched the event.  In later years the organisation of the Air Fair was taken on by Squadron Leader Maitland’s son Jim, through their company, Air Displays International.  However, in recent years the Maitland family’s involvement with the event has got less and less, since the retirement of Jock Maitland from the organisation five years ago.

As of 2011 the Biggin Hill International Air Fair will be run by Biggin Hill Airport Ltd, the owners of the airport itself who have been taking on the bulk of the organisation in recent years, coinciding with the Maitland family’s step back.

Final say on any significant changes to the event will ultimately be decided by the stakeholders of Biggin Hill Airport Ltd and tenants on the airport land.  But the event is expected to take place in 2011 with dates to be named shortly.

The event this year was a great success.  Over 100,000 people visited the Air Fair over the two days and enjoyed glorious sunshine throughout.  The theme in 2010 was the celebration of the 70^th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
