Floella Benjamin has become the Baroness of Beckenham. The famous 1980’s children’s TV presenter, associated with Playschool and Play Away, has been appointed a peer in the House of Lords for the Liberal Democrat party.
Baroness Benjamin spent her youth in Beckenham, her parents lived there for over 30 years and are buried at Beckenham Cemetery, and this is the reason she chose Beckenham for her title, despite now residing in nearby Dulwich.
