Penge is a suburb of London in the London Borough of Bromley.Penge is a busy South London suburb near to the world famous Crystal Palace Park. Penge has a bustling High Street with lots of small shops and a market in Maple Road.
Penge is famed for its Victorian Almshouses, the oldest being built around 1840, the last of these were converted into private homes in 1973. Despite being an urban area Penge also has conservation areas a canal, and a number of other culturally significant buildings.
In Victorian times Penge was notorious for having 25 pubs to the square mile; today it still boasts a large number of such establishments
Although Penge has no pre-Victorian buildings it can boast 3 groups of almshouses together with conservation areas and other buildings of interest including canal /railway features.
Commuters can travel into either London Victoria or London Bridge via two railway stations, Penge East and Penge West, there are also a number of other stations within the vicinity.
It is reputed that Penge is home to the oldest working police station in London, constructed in 1872.
