Description:
Anerley is a residential area in Bromley Borough, but not considered a town in its own right. Its properties have the same Victorian architecture predominant in so much of the borough. Anerley does have a town hall though but it is now predominantly used as a venue for hire.Anerley is famous as being the site of the former Crystal Palace after it was moved from Hyde Park following the great exhibition. It stood here, on the former Penge Common, from 1854 until it was destroyed by fire in 1936.
Anerley is served by many buses which travel to local towns, including the 358 which links the two major surrounding towns, Bromley and Croydon. Anerley railway station provides trains to London Bridge and also goes through the main town of Croydon through East Croydon and West Croydon stations. Nearby Birkbeck station serves London Victoria as well as London Bridge. The extension of the East London Line is planned to go through Anerley and improve the underground links to towns south of the Thames.
