Description:
St Mary Cray is small, working class village which has been incorporated into the much larger town of Orpington. It is on the River Cray. As with St Paul's Cray, it is home to a large ex-traveller community. The area is mostly housing with a small high street, overshadowed by the range of shops offered by nearby Orpington, where you would have to venture further for most retail requirements. For larger retail outlets there is the retail parks at Sevenoaks Way and Cray Avenue which offers the larger outlets of stores such as PC World, Land of Leather, Comet and MFI.
The village does have a railway station which is in zone 6 and serves London Victoria, due to the retail park there are also regular buses to and from local towns in the borough.
The local church, St Mary the Virgin, gave its name to the area after it was previously called South Cray.
