Description:
Hayes is a town in Bromley that is effectively split into two parts. There is the station side of Hayes which is more of a suburban area, and also the ancient village, which is not as quiet as it sounds due a major through road. The village area of Hayes contains a small shopping parade on Hayes Lane, a large primary school on George Lane and a pub, The George, now run by a nationwide pub/restaurant chain. The older area of Hayes also has the Parish Church, St Mary's.
The suburban area to the north and west of the town is the area in which the houses flow seamlessly into nearby West Wickham and Bromley as well as Coney Hall. This area of Hayes has numerous shops, chain and independent, as well as restaurants and takeaways, a petrol garage and small supermarkets. Opposite the railway station is the pub, The New Inn.
Hayes Railway Station is the terminus of a route that serves Charing Cross, London Bridge, and Cannon Street. It offers regular services into London but journeys seem long due to the number of stops they cover.
Hayes is served by numerous and frequent bus services serving towns in the Borough such as, Bromley, Orpington, and Keston as well as towns outside the borough such as Westerham, Eltham and New Addington.
Hayes School is the local secondary school.
Hayes has numerous green areas and playing fields, just off of Hayes Lane is the home of the renowned athletics club, the Blackheath Harriers. One of the most significant green areas in the borough is Hayes Common which stretches out over 79 hectares. There are a number of footpaths that allow exploration and car parks to allow easy access.
