Description:
Crofton Roman Villa is located in Orpington right next to Orpington Railway Station. The site, which is the only Roman Villa open to the public in Greater London, was unearthed by workmen in 1926, when they were building a driveway for some local council offices. However the site was not fully unearthed to its current glory until 1988.
The site is undercover in order to protect it; it consists of 10 rooms of a Roman villa which was occupied between 140AD and 400AD. Remains can be seen of the tiled floors and the under floor heating system.
Also within your small entrance fee is a short talk by an expert, information regarding the excavations, a touch table of Roman artefacts and replica objects and children's activities
