Description:
Petts wood is situated between Chislehurst and Orpington, as with most towns in the London Borough of Bromley it is in an ideal position to commute into London with a station serving the main London stations of Charing Cross, Waterloo East, London Bridge, Victoria and Blackfriars. Local buses run regularly too Petts Wood also has good road connections with it's proximity to the M25, the M20 and the M2 connection to the cross channel ferry ports. The railway line effectively divides Petts Wood into two distinct areas, Petts Wood East and Petts Wood West, the latter is sometimes called Queensway after the main shopping street running through it. Both sides have a range of shops with the East side having the main supermarket, Morrison's, but the West side having the majority of the larger shops.
Petts Wood has two main pubs, on the East side there is the Sovereign of the Seas, a chain pub from JD Wetherspoon's, on the other side of the railway track there is the large Daylight in pub named after the Daylight Savings Time campaigner, William Willet, who lived in nearby Chislehurst.
Petts Wood does actually exist as a wood still and is under the management of the National Trust. The size of the wood is some 325 acres. The Jubilee Country Park is also located partly within Petts Wood and is known as a home to many species of rare wildlife.
There are two primary schools in Petts Wood, St James's Primary School and Crofton.
In 2009, the local Woolworths was the last to close in the UK. The manager, got together the last of the famous Pick and Mix sweets and auctioned the bag raising £14,500. The bag would have normally cost a couple of pounds!
