The Maypole Project

The Maypole Project in Green Street Green is a small, local charity working with chronically ill children and their families in South East London and Kent. We have provided emotional support to over one hundred and fifty families with children with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy or multiple disabilities.

Our charity offers on-going emotional support through professional counselling, advice and befriending. Each child has a designated family worker to help them and their families through the chronically stressful time of diagnosis, ongoing treatment and, in some cases, the prospect of bereavement.

The Maypole Project is a highly valued service by those families who sadly need to use us. As one parent wrote;

”Imagine the unimaginable. You are watching your children struggling to live a “normal” life because they have a serious or terminal illness or disability – what do you do, where do you go, who can you talk to? The Maypole will listen and support the children and their families, and, in many different ways, provide a short time of normality during a very abnormal time.”

It costs us £750 to support one child and their family for a whole year. We receive no government funding to do this work, so fundraising is vitally important for The Maypole Project.
